Ray Cross was a solid half back flanker who was hampered by knee problems during his time in the VFL with St Kilda. From 1962 to 1967 he played 57 games for the Saints and scored four goals. He lined up in the comparatively unaccustomed position of half forward flank in the losing 1965 grand final against Essendon, while a year later he missed the famous one point triumph over St Kilda with injury.
