Ray Windsor showed plenty of promise as a youngster, highlighted by winning the 1989 Larke Medal as the best player in division one of the National Under 18 Championships. Originally from country Victoria, he later moved to Queensland and played his early senior football with Western Districts, before being drafted by Brisbane. Although he obviously boasted talent, he struggled to have an impact at the Bears, playing just 23 AFL games and scoring 22 goals for them from 1990 to 1993. He was a member of the club’s reserve grade grand final-winning team in 1991. The 1994 season found him at Central District where he added 43 SANFL appearances and 19 goals over two seasons. His last game for the Bulldogs was the 1995 grand final loss to Port Adelaide when he was his team’s only multiple goal kicker with two majors.
