Reg Humphries was a solid, dependable back pocket who was a member of Northcote’s losing grand final side in 1931 and then the triumphant combinations in the 1932 and 1933 play-offs. In 1934 he crossed to South Melbourne where he proved a useful acquisition, playing 68 VFL games and kicking eight goals from 1934 to 1936 and in 1938-9. He then joined the RAAF which brought the curtain down on his League career. A highlight of that career was playing in South’s losing grand final team of 1935 against Collingwood.
