Rod Jameson was a tall, rangy footballer who commenced with Glenelg in 1989 and had played two seasons with the Tigers, mainly in the midfield, when he was included on fledgling AFL club Adelaide's inaugural list. In his debut season with the Crows, playing mainly as a key position forward, he was their top goal kicker with 49 goals. One of the goals in particular stood out; it was kicked after the siren against Fitzroy to give the Crows the win.

From 1992 onwards Jameson gradually moved further back, playing midfield initially, then across half back, and finally on the last line. Strong overhead, and an excellent kick, he was also hard to get the better of one on one. In 1997 he was a member of Adelaide's breakthrough premiership team but his involvement in the grand final was brief as he injured a hamstring early in the game and was unable to continue. A year later, the Crows again made it through to the decisive match of the year but Jameson, who in all likelihood would have been picked, was unavailable owing to a calf injury.

Between 1991 and 199 Rod Jameson played 153 AFL games for the Crows and kicked 113 goals. The Glenelg phase of his career, which ran in tandem with his time in the AFL to some extent, comprised 71 games and saw him boot 53 goals.
