Ron Bywater was an extremely competent key position player who was equally effective at either end of the ground. After playing just once in both 1942 and 1944 because of war service, and not playing at all in 1943 and 1945, he developed into a regular senior player thereafter, and had played 58 VFL games and scored 39 goals by the time he left the club in order to join Corowa in 1950.
