Ron Harvey was a talented all round footballer who served Fitzroy well irrespective of whether the club was doing well or struggling. He clambered through the ranks before making his senior debut in 1954 and had played a total of 127 VFL games by the time he retired in 1963. Harvey probably produced his best football but he could also hold down a key forward position and tallied 49 goals over the course of his career. A Fitzroy best and fairest winner in 1959 another career highlight came the same year when he was a member of the club's first ever night premiership team. He also represented Victoria a couple of times and came sixth in the voting for the 1962 Brownlow Medal..
