A useful footballer capable of the odd burst of brilliance, Ron McKeown was effective at both ends of the ground, but probably played his most consistent football at full back. Between 1984 and 1993 he played 123 V/AFL games and kicked 105 goals for Collingwood but he is probably best remembered for the games he missed. In 1990, having played 20 games for the season, he was controversially dropped for the second semi final clash with Essendon, and did not regain his place for the grand final re-match a fortnight later.
