Ron Reeves joined Collingwood from East Melbourne YCW and made his way up through the ranks, commencing in the under nineteens. His excellent reading of the play and strong overhead marking helped make him a top notch back pocket player. Built like a miniature tank he was not afraid of mixing it and helped give the Magpies one of the toughest backlines in the league. He took his senior VFL bows in 1958 and crowned a highly promising debut season by being listed high among his team’s best players in the upset grand final defeat of Melbourne. He also played in the losing grand final teams of 1960 and 1964 as well as representing Victoria.

When he retired in 1965 he had played 122 VFL games and kicked 2 goals.
