So rapid has been the advancement of Ron Branton, young Richmond rover, that, although, only a ‘baby’ to League football, he is already being acclaimed as one of the top ranking rovers of the future. Branton, 21 last week, came last season from Maryborough, the home of many fine footballers, and under the coaching of Alby Pannam, and his association with Carnival players Roy Wright and Billy Wilson, has gone ahead by leaps and bounds.¹

Originally from Maryborough, Ron Branton spent the early part of his Richmond career playing as a rover, before developing into one of the finest back pocket players in the game. As a back pocket he represented the VFL and won his club's best and fairest award in 1960-61-2, the same years that he captained the Tigers. He played a total of 170 VFL games, kicking 171 goals, between 1953 and 1962. Branton later played for both Myrtleford in the Ovens and Murray Football League, and King Valley United in the Ovens and King Football League. He was inducted into Richmond's Hall of Fame in 2006.
