From Bairnsdale, Ross Warner was at Richmond from 1963 to 1967 during which time he played 49 games and scored 45 goals. He also played quite a lot of reserves football, winning the best and fairest award in that grade in 1967. A forward early in his VFL career, he was later successfully converted into a solid defender. He transferred to VFA first division side Waverley after leaving the Tigers and topped that club’s goal kicking list in 1968. In two seasons with the Panthers he played 29 games and kicked 60 goals.
