Russell Muir, a back pocket specialist, joined North Melbourne from Strathmore. Never afraid of backing his judgement, he liked to go on surging runs upfield. After 40 VFL games and six goals for the Kangas between 1972 and 1975 he joined Essendon where he added another 67 games and three goals from 1977 to 1981. He was a member of the Bombers’ night premiership team in his final season.
