Of formidable build at 189cm and 84kg Simon Beaumont boasted most of the standard qualities you might expect of a league footballer along with a quite exceptional turn of pace. He commenced with Carlton in 1995 and struggled initially to hold down a place in the powerful Blues line-up. His first three seasons yielded just 16 senior appearances but, after that, improvement was concerted and considerable. Often used as a defender, he could also undertake a number of other roles, although his effectiveness when tried as a forward tended to be undermined by shoddy kicking.

By the end of the 2003 season Beaumont had played 152 AFL games for Carlton, the last 133 of which were consecutive. It was therefore something of a surprise when he featured in a three club trade deal which saw him on the move to Hawthorn where, in 2004-5, he played a final 27 games and kicked 12 goals to add to the 89 scored with the Blues.

After quitting the AFL scene Beaumont played in a VAFA B Section premiership with Old Melburnians in 2009.
