A product of Glenelg where he played senior football at the age of just sixteen, Simon Cox went on to play in the AFL with Footscray/Western Bulldogs (58 games, 24 goals, 1995-2001) and Hawthorn (35 games, 17 goals, 2002-3). A fleet-footed, highly mobile, strong marking wingman or defender he can be adjudged unfortunate to have been de-listed by the Hawks just a year after he had run second in the club’s best and fairest count, but such is the cut-throat world of the modern AFL.
After leaving Hawthorn Cox returned to his home town of Keith and went on to play football firstly for Keith and later for Naracoorte in the Kowree Naracoorte Football League.
