After struggling for opportunities at Collingwood, where he played 21 VFL games and kicked 21 goals from 1938 to 1941, Stan Dawson resurfaced at Fitzroy in 1943 and really came into his own. Between 1943 and 1946 he played 57 games and kicked 40 goals for the club, with the highlight being the 1944 grand final in which he lined up on a half forward flank as the ‘Roys downed Richmond.
