After serving in the RAAF during world war two Stan Vandersluys embarked on a VFL career with Fitzroy in 1946. A sturdily built defender, he alternated between seniors (47 games) and reserves (60 games) throughout his seven season stint with the Roys. He joined Richmond in 1953, and played a final three VFL games for the season before crossing to East Brunswick as captain-coach the following year.
