Stan Wootton commenced his senior playing career with Leopold before joining South Melbourne in 1915. He played eight VFL games that year followed by another 33 from 1920 to 1922. He kicked a total of 45 goals for South. A wingman and half forward flanker, he rounded off his career with half a dozen games and a goal for Richmond in 1923. Away from football Wootton was an accomplished cricketer, playing as a wicket-keeper.
