Teddy Lockwood commenced his senior football career with West Perth in 1896. His three season, 33 WAFA game stint with the club included appearances in 1897, the season in which West Perth claimed its first ever premiership.

A pacy, clever, team orientated forward, Lockwood moved to Geelong in 1899 and did well. He was the club’s leading goal kicker in 1900 with 24 goals, a tally which also saw him jointly top the League list (with Albert Thurgood). After registering 45 VFL games and 61 goals with the Pivotonians between 1899 and 1901 he rounded off his career with 53 games and 83 goals for Collingwood from 1902 to 1905.

His time with the Magpies was memorable. In 1902 and 1903 he played in winning grand finals against Essendon and Fitzroy respectively, contributing three goals from full forward to the 9.6 to 3.9 triumph in the former match. Other highlights included representing Victoria against South Australia in 1902 and topping the VFL goal kicking charts in 1903 with 33 goals. Needless to say he was the Magpies’ leading goal kicker the same year.
