Son of former Collingwood player Bill Thripp, Terry Thripp commenced his senior football career with Pennant Hills, before being recruited by Sydney. He debuted in 1983, the first locally born player to represent the Swans following their relocation. A utility who boasted excellent all round skills, he could operate with equal effectiveness at both ends of the ground. In 1983-4 and from 1987 to 1992 he played 78 V/AFL games and scored 43 goals. In addition he helped New South Wales to a third place finish at the 1988 bicentennial carnival in Adelaide. He also spent some time with North Shore, and was chosen at centre half back in that club’s official ‘Team of the Century’.
