From St Edmund’s College, Canberra, Troy Gray proved himself a serviceable AFL player. He debuted with Sydney in 1992 and went on to play 51 games and score 24 goals for the club over five seasons. His best season was 1995 when, playing mainly as a defender, he appeared in 19 of the Swans’ 22 matches. By contrast the following season proved inordinately disappointing as, owing to injury, he was restricted to just four games, and missed the grand final clash with North Melbourne. During the close season he was traded to St Kilda but he failed to have an impact, managing just nine appearances and two goals in what proved to be the last season of his top level playing career.
