One of a quintet of Broken Hill recruits to feature prominently in West Adelaide’s 1927 premiership side, Albert ‘Sonna’ Stokes was a highly adaptable and talented footballer who gave the club great service in 106 SAFL games, kicking 62 goals, between 1926 and 1936. He spent the 1931 season with West Torrens. A South Australian interstate representative on three occasions, his impact on the game would have been even greater had he not been such a frequent victim of injury.
