Norwood recruited Andrew Jarvis from North Mount Gambier Football Club and he made his SANFL debut in 1982. He performed well in his first season, that is until he suffered a bad foot injury in the Redlegs’ qualifying final win over Sturt. As a result he missed the chance to play in a premiership team as Norwood won that season’s grand final against Sturt.
In 1983 Jarvis played mainly reserves football, and indeed won the club’s best and fairest award at that level. He returned to regular senior action the following year and his timing could not have been better as the Redlegs again went top and on this occasion Jarvis was a member of the team, lining up on a half back flank as arch rivals Port Adelaide were put to the sword in a thriller by nine points.
The 1986 season saw the left footed wingman and half back flanker again fall out of favour and play mostly reserves football, culminating in a best afield performance in the Redlegs’ grand final defeat of Woodville.
After 83 SANFL games and 10 goals for Norwood Andrew Jarvis transferred to South Adelaide in 1987 and, over the course of the next four seasons, added a final 28 games and 10 goals to his respective career tallies.
