Ashley Blurton was a small utility who enjoyed a fine WAFL/Westar Rules¹ career but struggled to cope with the heightened intensity of the AFL. He played 62 games and kicked 25 goals for West Perth between 1994 and 1997, and was a member of the club’s 1995 premiership-winning team. From 1995 to 1997 he was on West Coast’s list, but only managed to register 10 games and two goals during that time. It was a similar story at his next AFL club, Richmond, where he played 14 games and kicked seven goals in 1998-9. Returning to Western Australia he transferred his allegiance to Peel Thunder, adding a final 25 games and 15 goals before retiring.
