Austin McCrabb was a solid if not always reliable defender who never quite managed to nail down a regular senior spot at either of his V/AFL clubs. From 1987 to 1991 he played 36 games and scored four goals for Geelong, followed by a nine game, one goal stint at Hawthorn in 1992. He finished his playing career in the VFA with Sandringham in 1994, whom he helped to that year’s premiership courtesy of an 11.12 (78) to 10.9 (69) grand final defeat of Box Hill. He played 10 games for the Zebras and kicked five goals.
