Jack Bennett was a highly effective ruckman who was a mainstay of Carlton teams for muchof the 1940s. He made his league debut in 1940, and ended up playing a total of 119 VFL games for the Blues, the last of which was the Grand Final of 1947 against Essendon. Bennett was near best afield that day as Carlton got home by a single point. He had earlier also played in the infamous 'Bloodbath' Grand Final of 1945 (reviewed here), which the Blues also won. After finishing with Carlton, Bennett headed south to Tasmania and had stints as captain-coach of Cooee, North Launceston and Clarence.
