North Adelaide’s Bert Mangelsdorf was a high quality defender capable of playing anywhere in the backlines. His 94 game nine goal SANFL career from 1929 to 1935 included appearances in the premiership deciding matches of 1930, 1931 and 1932. The first two games, against Port Adelaide and Sturt, were won, with the Double Blues turning the tables in 1932.
Mangelsdorf, a North best and fairest winner in 1932, might be considered somewhat unfortunate never to have achieved state selection.
