Bert Skuce

Bert Skuce was a Valleys ruckman whose best years were disrupted by the First World War. He played for Queensland from 1914 to 1924 – a period rarely matched at State level – and captained Valleys to the 1913 premiership in an era when the game was at one of its strongest points. Originally from South Australia, he played in the SANFL, and also spent a year playing in Tasmania for the strong Zeehan club before settling in Queensland. He continued to play well into his 40s, and was nearly always mentioned in Queensland’s best players.
