A locally produced rover who struggled at first to get a regular game with East Perth, Bevan Byrne did not shrink from the challenge, and his reward was membership of two league Grand Final winning teams. In the first of these, in 1958, he was among the best players afield as the Royals edged out East Fremantle by a couple of points. The following year, against Subiaco, he was less prominent, but still an important contributor, as East Perth won comfortably by 23 points.
His senior career with the Royals comprised exactly 50 games between 1958 and 1961 and saw him boot 44 goals.
