A stalwart at Perth for a dozen seasons, Brian Cook was a sometimes underrated, but consistently effective, footballer, who improved as he got older. He made his league debut in 1971, and played on a wing in the 1974 Grand Final which Perth lost to East Fremantle. He later developed into a strong marking, commanding key position player, performing creditably at centre half back in the winning Grand Finals of 1976 and 1977 against East Perth and East Fremantle respectively.
A Western Australian interstate representative on five occasions, Cook had played a total of 187 senior games by the time he retired in 1982, with one of the highlights being a club fairest and best award in 1980, and the captaincy the following year.
