Although he was never an automatic choice for Collingwood’s seniors Brian McKenzie could be relied on to give good value when called upon. He played 81 VFL games for the Magpies from 1966 to 1972 without kicking a goal. He was most commonly utilised either as a half back flanker or permanent back pocket, and although his play was devoid of frills he was nevertheless effective and reliable.
