Bruce Johnson was a tough, close checking defender who was strong overhead and a thumping kick. Between 1959 and 1964 he played 63 SANFL games for Norwood and registered one goal. He was a member of the Redlegs’ losing grand final teams against North Adelaide in 1960 and West Adelaide the following year. After the latter match, which was dubbed the ‘Turkish Bath’ grand final because it was played in searing heat, Johnson was listed high among his team’s best players.
