Darren Crocker was a talented but injury prone footballer who was capable of performing serviceably at both ends of the ground. He debuted with North Melbourne in 1985 and during his first few seasons, before injuries began to take their toll, he was one of the Kangas' most conspicuous performers, for example running second in the club's best and fairest count in 1992. His injury woes notwithstanding, Crocker was sufficiently fit to line up for North in their winning 1996 grand final clash with Sydney to which he contributed 3.2, his team's highest individual score. 

After retiring as a player Darren Crocker became an assistant coach at Richmond for a time and in 2009 spent some time as caretaker coach of the North Melbourne Football Club, a task he undertook again in 2015.
