Damen Shaw was a talented midfielder who impressed greatly in his first couple of seasons with St Kilda only to suffer a decline in form and confidence thereafter. Between 1993 and 1995 he played 40 AFL games for the Saints and scored 15 goals. A right footer, his kicking with his left was exceptionally good, a legacy of his father’s insistence that he use that foot virtually all the time as a youngster. In 1996 Shaw joined SANFL club Port Adelaide but he had a fairly poor year, playing just 12 games and kicking six goals.
