Dick McCabe (incorrectly listed as "McKay" in the picture) was a solid, gutsy and reliable defender who gave good service to three VFL clubs over 11 seasons. He began with Fitzroy, where he played 24 league games in 1897-8, and then crossed to St Kilda, where his five seasons for 73 games included the club captaincy in 1901. McKay rounded off his career with 51 games for South Melbourne between 1904 and 1907.
