Doug Ringholt was a slimly built flanker and wingman who was strong overhead and knew how to use his (admittedly limited, at 74kg) weight effectively. After struggling to make an impression at Carlton where he played just four games in 1963 and 1964 he received several offers from clubs outside Victoria, and opted to join Claremont. In his third game for the Tigers he flattened West Perth skipper Bob Spargo, earning a reputation for tenacity which would remain with him throughout his time in Western Australia. That time ultimately came to a somewhat premature end in 1970 after a clash of wills with Claremont coach Denis Marshall. He had played 114 games and kicked two goals for the Tigers.
