From Wilkawatt in the Murray Mallee region, Doug Young was a cool, clever half forward flanker whose kicking with his favoured left foot was impressive. From 1953 to 1958 he played 86 SANFL games for Norwood and scored 76 goals. He was a member of the Redlegs’ losing grand final teams against Port Adelaide in both 1955 and 1957.
