As a small forward, Eddie Betts gave Carlton nine seasons of fine service over 184 games. In that period, he kicked 290 goals, regularly thrilling Blues' fans with freak shots from the boundary line or lightning-fast runs into an open goal. Renowned for wearing shorts that seemed several sizes too big, Betts and Carlton agreed to part company at the end of 2013 and he spent 2014 providing similar thrills to Crows' fans in his 22 games for Adelaide that yielded a healthy return of 51 goals.

Over the ensuing two seasons, Eddie Betts' record has been further enhanced. The 2015 season saw him average, comfortably the highest of any of his AFL years, with his 63-goal effort culminating in a match-winning five-goal haul in the Crows' thrilling win over the Bulldogs in the Elimination Final. He was kept goalless in Adelaide's loss the following week but has been as good as ever in 2016, maintaining that 2.7 goals per game average.
