Winner of South Melbourne's 1955 best and fairest award, 'Eddie' Lane was a nimble, clever rover with a keen eye for goal. He topped South's goal kicking list with 28 goals in 1954 and 36 the following year, and went on to amass a career total of 130 in 96 VFL games between 1951 and 1956. A sure ball-handler whose foot passing was excellent, he also played state football for the VFL.
