Snowy’ Lumsden was a tough, aggressive rover who commenced with Collingwood in 1910 but after struggling to get a game (he played just 15 times in three years) crossed to Essendon in 1913, where he immediately hit his straps. Always a danger near goal, he topped the Same Old’s goal kicking list with 28 goals in 1914, and continued with the club until it went into recess two years later because of the war. He had played 34 games and booted 49 goals in the black and red. The 1917 season saw him embarking on a second and ultimately more fruitful stint with Collingwood. He played 63 games this time round and was a member of Magpie grand final teams in 1917 (beat Fitzroy), 1918 (lost to South Melbourne) and 1919 (won against Richmond).
