Carlton’s Avenel recruit Frank Martin was a highly adaptable footballer who was utilised in numerous roles over the course of his play career. He even spent time as both a ruckman and a rover, while some of his best football was played across half back. In the 1921 challenge final clash with Richmond he led the rucks but could not prevent a shock four point reversal. His VFL career with the Blues comprised 87 games and 15 goals between 1917 and 1923.
