Early in his career with West Adelaide Mount Gambier recruit Gary Sims was touted as the long sought answer to the club’s desperate need for a quality full forward. In the end, he probably failed to justify that assessment, but he still produced some telling performances over his 63 game playing career, which ran from 1965 to 1968, during which he netted 150 goals. Moreover, his spectacular marking ability made him an exciting player to watch. He was West’s top goal kicker in 1966 with 61 goals and 1967 with 52.
