Goldie Collins was a redoubtable follower who was a key member of Fitzroy’s powerful post-world war one teams. He made a sterling contribution to the ‘Roys’ 1922 challenge final defeat of Collingwood, and played even better a year later when Fitzroy again reached the flag decider, only to lose to Essendon. During the 1923 match Collins found himself the target of considerable ‘attention’, much of it illicit, but he still earned mention as his side’s best player. Other career highlights included a club champion award in 1923 and four interstate appearances for Victoria. His VFL career with the Roys spanned the years 1922 to 1924 and 1926 to 1928 during which he played 64 games and scored nine goals.
