West Torrens rover Ian Wallace was tough as nails and, given the number of injuries he suffered during his career, he had to be. He could also play a bit, as he proved by coming second in the 1974 Magarey Medal count, as well as claiming the Eagles’ best and fairest award the same year. However, over the course of the period 1973 to 1979 he only managed to play 62 senior games, a tally that would likely have been doubled had he been comparatively injury free. Prior to commencing with Torrens, Wallace had spent the 1965-6 and 1970 to 1972 seasons playing for Williamstown in the VFA, and he also made two senior appearances in the VFL for Footscray in 1968.
