Jack Sorrell made his senior debut with Norwood in 1927 but did not become a regular in the side until 1929. However, despite appearing in 15 games that year including the second semi final, he was omitted from the challenge final line-up and so missed out on premiership honours. He enjoyed his best season in 1930 when he made the state training squad for a match against Victoria in Adelaide. However, he ended up only being named as 19th man and he did not get a run.
Sorrell left the Redlegs after the 1933 season having played 78 SANFL games and scored 29 goals for the club, and spent the following year out of football nursing an injury. In 1935 he returned to the fray with South Adelaide but he played just three matches for his new club before retiring.
