Jamie Elliott was a talented defender who was hampered by injuries and illness for much of his career. He joined Fitzroy in 1989 from Maryborough in the Ballarat competition and made his senior AFL debut two years later. For the first and only time in his career he played every match for the season but his appearances after that were more spasmodic. His three season stint with the Lions saw him play 40 games and kick seven goals.

Elliott spent the 1994 and 1995 seasons with Richmond, but a combination of illness and injuries restricted him to just nine games and one goal during that time. It was a similar story at his next port of call, St Kilda, where he spent three seasons, once again playing nine games and scoring one goal, all in 1996. He played in the Saints’ winning Ansett Cup side but sustained a shoulder injury during the match which kept him out for the first half of the season. After failing to make a single senior appearance in 1997-8 he was de-listed, bringing the curtain down on his top level playing career.
