A rugged and reliable defender who never took a backward step, Jamie Thomas was a stalwart of the Central District Football Club during generally lean times in the 1980s. Between 1982 and 1989 he played 153 SANFL games for the Bulldogs and scored 41 goals. His son Paul, who was a 200-plus game player with Centrals as well as playing briefly with Essendon, was installed as Bulldogs coach ahead of the 2021 season.
