After brief spells with West Perth in 1923 and goldfields club Railways the following year Ken Leahy headed east and threw in his lot with Geelong in the VFL. His timing could scarcely have been better as the 1925 season would see the Cats achieve their breakthrough league premiership win. Lining up on a half back flank, Leahy was one of the best players afield.

Typically covering a lot of territory during a game, his surging runs were a trademark. He also drop kicked well. In addition to the half back flank he was perfectly at home on the ball, on a wing and across half forward. Somewhat surprisingly, he only spent three seasons with Geelong, playing 29 VFL games and registering four goals.
