Edgar Kneen was a talented wingman and half forward flanker who debuted with Fitzroy in 1904. At season’s end he contributed a couple of goals to the Roys’ grand final tally of 9.7, in a four goal win over Carlton. Two years later the same two teams confronted one another in the flag decider but despite putting in a fine personal performance Kneen finished on the losing side this time round. His three seasons with Fitzroy had seen him play 48 games and boot 33 goals.

After a one season gap Kneen’s VFL career continued in 1908 with University, which was taking its bows in the competition. He added 46 games and 48 goals with the Students whom he captained in 1910.
