Len Halley enjoyed a highly varied top level football career in four different competitions in three states. After being recruited from Healesville he made his way up through the ranks at Essendon before taking his bows at senior level in 1970. A solid and reliable ruckman, he played 35 VFL games and kicked 11 goals for the Bombers over the course of four seasons. In 1974 he played for East Devonport in the NWFU before experiencing the highlight of his career the following season when he was a member of West Perth’s record-breaking grand final defeat of South Fremantle (the record in question being the 104 point margin of victory).

Halley played 58 WANFL games and booted 28 goals for the Cardinals in 1975-6 and 1978-9. He spent the 1977 season with Brunswick in the VFA first division, playing 12 games and scoring 21 goals.
