Leslie Minto was a diminutive but tenacious wingman who played just a single game for Melbourne in 1905 before returning to VFA side West Melbourne, where he had previously played in 1903. In 1906 he was a member of the club’s sole VFA premiership-winning side, playing in his accustomed position on the wing in the 7.8 to 5.9 grand final defeat of Footscray. He played 49 games for West and scored eight goals.

In 1908 and 1909 Minto played 25 games and kicked seven goals for Essendon in the VFL. His appearances included the 1908 grand final, in which the Same Old lost to Carlton.

He later returned to the VFA, although with Northcote on this occasion, where he finished his playing career by adding 10 games and four goals in 1910 and 1912.
