Mark Scott was a full forward whose goal kicking feats in the reserves were not matched by his efforts in the seniors. Over the course of his 12 season career at three clubs he played 168 reserve games and kicked 655 goals, while his 78 senior appearances only yielded a total of 175.
From Burwood United, he had an aborted start to his league career at Hawthorn where, from 1978 to 1980, he played just three senior games and scored eight goals. Midway through the 1980 season he was traded to St Kilda, and it was with the Saints that he would produce the best football of his senior career, bagging 110 goals in 34 appearances from 1980 to 1983. He was St Kilda’s top goal kicker twice, in 1980 with 48 goals, and in 1982 with 45. By contrast, his six and a half season stint at Fitzroy was less noteworthy, yielding 57 goals from 41 games.
